Reviews of U.S. Internships from Around the World

Book Review #1 Switzerland

Internships are as critical a part of a student’ education as the endless round of lectures, assignments and exams. The book explains the purpose and benefit of undertaking the Internship and how to gain the best possible outcome out what should be an enjoyable extension of the continuous learning process.

The prospect of organizing their own placement fills most students with dread and fear, and add to this the pressure of doing this in another Continent would result in most of them failing at the first hurdle. US Internships for International Students and Young Professionals not only takes away a great number of the hurdles that International bureaucracy places in front of you, but also adds step-by-step, chapter-by-chapter advice and direction on how to make the most of the vast opportunities that the original land of opportunity has to offer.

The book is aimed at both undergraduates and postgraduate students who want to add the significant feather of experience in the USA to their CV. This can be the launching pad from which many great careers in both International and Domestic Hotel management have been launched. In addition to the benefit to the students seeking a position, the book provides the sort of reference material that all Careers Advisors should have on their desk.

I very much appreciated the straightforward simplicity of the advice that the book offers and I am very confident that those people who follow the advice will greatly enhance their chances of having a successful Internship.

Book Review #2 Argentina

The book is clearly written and every person who wants to participate in the Training program must, on first place, read this book. It provides a clear overview of the program goals and stresses the importance of keeping these goals in mind throughout the entire training program.

The Training program is a real life experience, the trainee has access to a real job, and he or she will have to live in a different country. We believe that it is very important that trainees understand from the very beginning that he/she will have to do a significant effort to start the experience. Furthermore, the effort will be significant to complete the experience and succeed!

This book goes through every step involved in the application process. I find particularly interesting how the selection of the training site is explained. The way this is explained, shows that there are always for and against, pros and cons, and that the applicant can choose the training according to his interests, career and personal goals.

Once the training starts, the book stresses the importance of honoring the contract and making the most of the experience. Living in another country is not an easy task and it requires a huge effort.

This book will help the students and clarifies the application process, in order to allow the trainee to make the most grateful experience.

US Internships for International Students and Young Professionals

Too many young people decide to take an Internship overseas without really knowing what is in store for them. They fix their sights on a particular country and search for an organization that will facilitate their desired experience. In their haste to secure their overseas experience, they overlook the preparation that is vital for success. Bookstores and libraries are awash with a varied assortment of books and guides, most of which make the claim that their offer the ‘most comprehensive’ guide to living and working overseas. Sadly, many fall far short of their claims and provide no more than a tourist guide to the country with a small measure of ‘real life’ information thrown in for good measure.

‘US Internships for International Students and Young Professionals’ by Alexander Lostocco is truly the most comprehensive Handbook that I have encountered and should be considered a ‘must read’ for anyone considering an Internship in the United States of America. I have termed it a ‘Handbook’ rather than a ‘Book’ or ‘Guide’ because it provides the prospective Intern with a clear signposted roadmap through every step of the process, from pre-application to post arrival considerations. Although lengthy, the Author has managed to cover each step in a clear, concise manner and in a style that encourages further reading. This Handbook leaves the reader with no questions left to ask – it is all covered - and will be equally invaluable to both potential Interns and apprehensive Parents who are often asked to ‘give their blessing’ to an overseas trip, without really understanding the process.

Re: US Internships for International Students and Young Professionals

I am extremely pleased to see that you have given me the real first chance to read this book.

I must be able to refer this book to many of our associating Korean colleges, universities, students and client young professionals who are trying to find their best chance in USA .

This book can be a “ Bible of Internship “ for them as it gives them all the facts and information they would really need to source their own internship. More than anything else they can get very valuable basic information what to do and how to be successful in USA .

I am looking forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Book Review #6 USA

“The author offers some helpful advice to those internationals seeking internships in America . Most interesting, and probably most valuable, are his tips during the interview stage. He also offers a view of America and Americans that is going to be helpful to those who have only seen Americans as characters in films. He covers a lot of important bases, and does so with an easy style that should introduce students not only to America but American slang and attitude.

Book Review #7 USA

In this, the age of the Internet finding something about anything is easy. Finding accurate information however can be a challenge.   Much of the information on the web about internships is incomplete, inaccurate or just plain wrong. In order to be useful, information must be accurate, concise, and presented in a manner that makes it easy to act on. This book is without question the best single volume source for information on seeking out and securing the best internships. Designed to help students evaluate not only internship programs, but themselves as well, it also helps to prepare students for what will be a significant experience. In reading the book I was impressed with the step-by-step process laid out in a logical sequence that they can follow to find the right internship. The information on resume writing and interviewing skills alone is something every person seeking a job should read. International students who may be interacting with American companies for the first time will find the book a resource on what to expect and what is expected of them in America.

The process of becoming an intern starts with you the student preparing to seek the internship you want. This book teaches you how to develop the skills and acquire the tools necessary to obtain the best internship for you. Read this book, start your journal and work hard, your future begins today.

Review #9 India

Before anything else I guess Alexander Lostocco deserves big gratitude for penning down such a vital, composite, comprehensive and exhaustive tool US Internships for International Students and Young Professionals.

Alexander may choose to call it “US Internships for International Students and Young professionals” but I am sure many readers would agree with me and the fundamentalists would excuse me for calling it the “Bible of US Internships” I feel that no other title except calling it a “Bible” could hold the weight of the value contained in this book.

I have been associated with international education, US Internships, US Work Travel and Seasonal employment program for such a period of time by the virtue of which I seldom take the liberty to call my career practice “Expertise” but I must confess here that this book is also going to be a ready reference for me in times a head to come.

For the motivated individuals this book would be a booster and act like a springboard that would give their pre-chosen internship decision a jump-start and help them achieve it. The unmotivated may find it cumbersome and dense to explore as Alexander had meticulously jotted every little detail both predictable and unpredictable in this book.

I am sure that this book will be like a beacon, a buoy and a life jacket for all those who wish to venture into the deep sea of US Internships .

US Internships for International Students and Young Professionals is like an express highway with illuminated signboards on each side that would help the international student community to reach their destination on not just getting in the US for a practical training but also mentor them in experiencing what I would call a truly American immersion program.

On behalf of the international career fraternity including students, parents, and consultants like me I would request Alexander to author more such books that would guide, motivate and mentor the international students with American career concepts and options.

Good Luck Alexander

Review #10 Bulgaria

The book US Internships for International Students and Young Professionals shows in detail the application process for any internship position. It contains information for everything a student needs to know about preparing documents, preparing for an interview, applying for a visa and so on. So here is something that we can tell about the book:

This book will be very useful for students who wish to participate in an internship program. It provides all the needed information. It would cost student a great deal of time trying to gather the information in the book on their own from the Internet or other sources. This is what makes this book a priceless guide in all matters concerning the internship process. Starting with preparing CVs, application process, interviews with potential employers, visa issuing, insurance and so on, this book covers it all. International recruiters and interviewers can even use this book you will find, because these are the people and organizations which need this information the most. We as a company, which has been in business for seven years and which offers internship programs, through reading this book, discovered some things which we did not know. Our practice show that students are looking for very brief internship information, unlike the agency which wishes to know all the details. We think that US Internships for International Students and Young Professionals is a great manual for each international interviewer and applicant.

Book Review #12 Philippines

Excellent!! This is the most informative book I have read on International internships. This book should have been written and published during the 80’s. When I did my internship in the US in 1990. I was groping in the dark.

I wish I had this one before doing my internship. The illustrations are factual. This is the book that all international interns must read and consult.

Congratulation on this excellent work!!! I will encourage my interns to have a copy of this book.

Review #13 Colombia

By reading this book, both the student and the young professional get detailed information concerning their internship project. It is quite an organized, detailed and complete guide. It includes all the topics to be considered by anyone involved in the internship process.

The reading of this guide is, in addition, quite a formative one. It presents to students/young professionals, the internship program as a whole (a process and a concept), provides advise about how to successfully apply to it, helps to understand the US as a nation and encourages applicants to complete the program, no matter the difficulties they may face.

Last but not least is the fact that the information and advise provided are not only of interest for students. They also apply to anyone seeking a job in the US . I am quite positive that this book will become a must for all people involved in the process, in a very near future.

Book Review #14 Columbia

I have never found so much material regarding internships. The book US Internships for International Students and Young Professionals contained so much information that it broadened my knowledge of the industry. It is very didactic with lots of good examples that help to illustrate the reading. I enjoyed reading this book and found it to be an excellent instructional tool. Almost 200 pages, it makes more than a reference book. Students will be grateful for the in depth knowledge it provides about what to expect from an internship.

It will be impossible to find a better source of information about internships. Everyone involved with international students must have a copy. I found it easy reading, and extremely didactic. If you are a student willing to do an internship, I guarantee that this is the best way to know what an internship is about.

Book Review #17 Peru

The author guides us pedagogically and patiently through the intricate Intercultural Exchanges' labyrinth, especially about the Professional Practices in the United States.

We can say this book is complete, and includes all the facets and factors of the Internship Program without neglecting the meticulous and opportune detail, what is very important for the reader. It is a very useful book for the young professional applicant to a North American Company’s Internship position; for the companies that wish to host interns and for the agencies that are used as a connection between the young professional, the sponsor and the employers.

For us in South America, the Mr. Lostocco’s book, will be a tool of great use for the student and young professionals to use in consultation.
