About the Author
Khayyam E. Ali was born in New York City and raised in the South Bronx
and Harlem, New York. He grew up in the restaurant business run by his
mother Rita (an African-American) and his father Syed (who was from
the country of Bangladesh).
The tragic passing of both of his parents only weeks apart in 1984 had
profound effects on him. Prior to their deaths he was a successful
young businessman, co-owning several restaurants with his parents.
With constant reminders of what he had lost, he decided to forgo the
restaurant business altogether. Within a year he was broke and
homeless.
Desolate but not defeated he remembered his parents always stressing
the importance of education. As a result he went on to earn three
college degrees and has been an educator for nearly 20 years. He is
presently teaching on Long Island, New York.
Mr. Ali has had several articles published on the topic of education
and has appeared on television and numerous radio shows as a
participant in discussions concerning education. In 2002 he wrote a
semi-biographical monologue entitled, “The Chairman,” which was
performed by one of his students at the world famous contest, “Amateur
Night at the Apollo Theatre,” located in Harlem, New York. The piece
won first prize.
Mr. Ali is also the subject of a biographical sketch in, “Who’s Who
in the World-2000 Millennium Edition.” In addition, he is
the editor of two compilations of children’s poetry books (written by
his students) entitled, “Ten Girls on the Write Way to College,”
and “Doing the Write Thing.”
The Wormhole Kids Visit President Kennedy is the first of many
Wormhole Kids historical fiction adventures.
Mr. Ali lives with his wife Terri who he refers to as, “My
inspiration… period.”
