About the author
Lorraine Huang was born and raised in America and traveled extensively
in China, Japan and Southeast Asia. Her early life and travel
experiences compelled her to confront the subservient role of women in
Asian culture, and the ways in which this tradition had impacted her
own perception of self.
Her training as an artist, designer, and
calligrapher helped her develop a deep understanding of the power of
the brush to define and shape meaning. Here, she uses this expertise
to explore the origins of gender inequality and to trace it through
the symbols and patterns of an ancient and powerful language.
The Woman Radical is simultaneously an
exploration of a great culture, a personal quest for self-empowerment
and an offer of reconciliation and healing for other inquisitive
souls.
Huang holds and BS in Landscape Architecture from
the University of California at Berkeley and a MA in East Asian
Studies from Columbia University. She has three grown children and one
granddaughter.
