Middle East political instability in 1993 emboldens Madman Qaddafi to launch a lethal strike at American aircraft patrolling the Gulf of Sidra. In a gut-wrenching dogfight four Libyan MiG-23s are shot down. Incensed by this military debacle, Qaddafi sanctions a retributive contract against the American flyers. International assassins are hired; the four Navy officers and their families are targeted. Qaddafi's strident dictate: No survivors. Bullets and flames will be Allah's avenging instruments. San Diego becomes the predators' stalking ground. Newell Tarrant has crafted a thriller that sweeps from the sands of the Sahara to the stony wastes of the Mojave. From Da Nang airfield to the old KGB offices of the Kremlin, the labyrinthine story soars and thunders through the air, and scorches the earth it treads. The terrorists relish their work. Everyday events - from squadron flight operations to family picnics - are dogged by the assassins. Lives are shredded as the killing-team's prey wander a maze of death and bureaucratic disbelief. Lacking sanctuary and imperiled by terrorists, each family is tested mightily in the resulting firestorm. And a soldier's adage once again proves true: Weak is to die.
