| About the Book
It began in World War II. A Ukranian family with two young boys,
violently uprooted by soldiers, flees across Europe, struggling to
survive and reach America. Aboard a flight to Berlin years later, one
of those boys recalls the displaced existence of his family and the
unsettling times. His life in the movie business is reflected in the
cinematic style of his memory and language, sweeping across some fifty
years of survival in a violent world, beginning with the fall of Kiev
and ending just after the first Gulf War.
