Book  Reviews

“...a unique transcivilizational conception of democratic governance... intriguing...”

--Dr. W. Andy Knight, Professor of International Relations, University of Alberta; Editor, Global Governance Journal

“Insightful, informative, thought-provoking...addresses crucial concerns for today’s world...very accessible...”

--Emma Zevik, Ph.D., Research Associate, Harvard University Asia Center

About the Book

Like many others from the developing world who were raised in simple villages, the author has traversed centuries of human development in his lifetime. This experience has made him more optimistic about the capacity of the individual to change, and more aware of the challenge of changing institutional structures and beliefs. Come along as he follows Abraham, Confucius, the Buddha, Jesus, and Mohamed through history. Watch as adherents of these great sages struggle to understand life's purpose. Measuring the many lessons learned over the centuries, Dr. Mhlaba is not disappointed. He observes that the nations of the world are no longer isolated, and asks the world community to rethink how it has organized its affairs to date. He proposes three innovations in global management: a recognition of the rights of nationalities and groups within and across state boundaries, a new ideal for democracy that he calls the Incentive-Based Franchise (IBF) model, and a formula for the reorganization and democratization of the United Nations. Written for an international audience, Incentive Based Franchise is at once a history of the world and a roadmap to the future. May it be the key to global peace and equality.
