Government & Religion in Ancient Israel

This book intends to contribute to the historical study of politics and religion in ancient Israel, without the pretension of strictly focusing on biblical exegesis alone. The authors quoted are experts in different fields related to Jewish studies, and their work is widely recognized in Middle East analyses all over the world.     

Since the findings of Qumran, Bible Studies have reached a peak in their development. No major new element has been brought to light at the scriptural level in the last forty years. The Semitic  research therefore benefits from a strong foundation. The bias related to denominational affiliations has diminished considerably with the Christian ecumenical movement, and the connections between different dimensions  at the early stages of Israel’s society can now be discussed without prejudice.
