About the Author
From a young age,
Curby Hō‘ikeāmaka Rule has shown a talent for discovering the
overlooked places and things of the natural landscape. His Hawaiian
name means, “To reveal in the light, as of something long hidden.” His
worldview was shaped by these gifts of knowledge revealed by a
landscape that he has come to know as sacred. To deepen his
relationship with the Sacred Landscape, he has pursued the truth and
wisdom that lies within the teachings and language of Hawai‘i. He
learned Hawaiian shamanism from Serge Kahili King and Susan Pa‘iniu
Floyd, as well as ho‘oponopono counseling, temple-style lomilomi
massage, and other Hawaiian healing methods, along with divination and
energy manipulation techniques. He continues to apply these teachings
in both his personal and professional life.
Ultimately, his most important teacher is the Sacred Landscape itself.
It is through an ever-evolving relationship with the Sacred Landscape
and the ancient teachings of Hawai‘i, that Rule continues to expand
his knowledge and understanding of the world in which we live.
Currently residing in Minnesota, Rule maintains his connection with
the living culture of Hawai‘i through his participation as dancer,
chanter, and musician in Kaleiokapilialoha, a performing hālau hula
based in Minneapolis, and as a life member of Nā Kahu Hikina A Ka Lā,
the caretakers of the Wailua heiau (temple) sites on Kaua‘i.
