Death row inmate Mikey Strenton tells his life story, as courtroom scenes unfold and others give testimony — the mother of a victim, the prison chaplain, lawyers, prosecutors, prison guards, and other inmates of death row. Their collective expression of suffering leads to a moving indictment of a method of justice which leaves blood on everyone’s hands. Article 5, based on Ms. Assante’s own experiences corresponding with a death-row prisoner, presents the human face of the death penalty—the object of explosive controversy.

About the Author
Currently a resident of New York, Isabelle Assante has written plays produced all over Europe, the U.S. and Canada. She studied with luminary playwrights Mac Wellman and Christopher Shinn. Isabelle has written several dramas dealing with social issues, as well as a radio play, Life and the Theater, published by Epyphanyzine (NYU Literary Magazine), and Primary Color (not yet released). She is also the author of Horatio, a sequel to Shakespeare’s Hamlet written almost entirely with lines found in the 1623 Folio Edition of Hamlet.
