| About the Book
Francis X. Levy is one of the most
prolific and protean writers
of the experience of Christian faith. His knowledge is vast, his eye
is tender and watchful of the human detail, and his skill at
communication makes his work a gift on the journey toward holiness.
Father John F. Schweikert, M.S.C. - Associate Retreat Director
Francis Levy’s autobiography Vestigia
reveals a life given to prayer in face of the mysterious ways of God
whether joyous or sorrowful. He has written, not to extol his
virtues - although they shine from these pages - but to encourage
others that in life, the answer to every situation is prayer.
Patricia Treece - Author of various books on saints and mysticism,
including A Man for Others, Nothing Short of a Miracle, Meet
Padre Pio, Mornings with Thérèse of Lisieux and Through the
Year with Padre Pio.
A Southerner from birth, Francis Levy
lived through the Depression and saw first-hand the horrors of
segregation - a rule of life that was commonplace and held sacred by
many, but which Levy never accepted. Government programs and the
outbreak of World War II brought the Depression to a rapid
conclusion, but young Francis was thrust into the teeth of the war.
An era of economic progress ensued, but the Korean War soon called
Levy back to military service. Through hardship, five years of
active service, and engineering jobs with leading governmental
contractors, Francis Levy lived his faith and relied on the power of
prayer to serve his needs. More than the story of one life, Levy’s
spiritual memoir powerfully illustrates the efficacy of prayer,
through many stories of subtle and miraculous answers. About the
Author Francis Xavier Levy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on
June 10, 1925, the fifth of nine children. A graduate of Loyola
University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, he was
a Naval officer during two wars and an engineer in civilian life.
Through all the turmoil, Levy’s Roman Catholic faith has always been
his life.
