“In my day” children were considered blessings from heaven. The greatest generation, of which I am a part, produced and reproduced, and the population was ever-increasing in the good old U.S.A. Motherhood, in its natural sequence, generally followed wedded bliss. Those of us who grew up before the sixties felt warmly rewarded when our houses were filled with laughing, happy youngsters. In most homes, there was that certain somebody who greeted them after a hard day at school. Families solved problems over home-cooked meals and “togetherness” was in vogue. I had almost decided that my ideas of child-raising were antiquated. It seemed my oldest sons would never find the girls of their dreams, and our family tree would wither and die without ever bearing fruit. Where was the patter of little feet that belonged under my children’s tables? And then – almost without warning – our youngest boy (twenty-one years old) stepped into matrimonial shoes. Our first grandchild, Michael, Jr., brought another dimension into the lives of the Sullivans, and I thought it would be fun to share him with some of you. Enjoy!
About the Author Klare Sullivan is a product of the Deep South. Although her heart is deeply entrenched in her native state of Mississippi, her creative writings are meant for universal enjoyment. With children no longer a part of the household, Klare found free time a welcome commodity. In her sixties, she began to write columns for several newspapers. Also, some of her articles were accepted and printed in the Mississippi Magazine, the Confederate Veteran magazine, and other small publications. A book entitled A Full Cup – Living, loving, and laughing in the 80’s is a compilation of the articles she wrote for the newspapers. Maw Maw, the Sun’s up is her second book. Her stories of everyday happenings are mostly humorous, but some may cause one to shed a tear or two. Recently, Klare has added a new dimension to her latent abilities. She is currently engaged in giving inspirational talks on legacies that senior citizens can leave for future generations. The author attended Louisiana State University. In 1948, she married and settled down to being a homemaker. The couple has four sons, nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
