(L’Enclume et le couteau)
ADELARD COTÉ, fermier, forgeron et artiste populaire sculpta des
centaines de pièces avant sa mort en 1974. Né le 6 juin 1889 à
Ste-Sophie, Québec, il s’établit dans la région de Biddeford-Saco
(Maine) au début des années 20. Il épousa Éva Hébert qui fut pour lui
non seulement compagne de vie mais inspiration d’artiste.

ADELARD COTÉ, farmer, blacksmith and folk artist, produced hundreds
of carvings before his death in 1974. Born June 6, 1889 in Ste-Sophie,
Québec, he settled in the Biddeford-Saco region of Maine where he
married Éva Hébert. She would be not only a lifetime companion but his
inspiration as an artist.

About the
Authors:
NORMAND R. BEAUPRÉ, the author, a native and resident of Biddeford,
has for many years been a researcher of Franco-American folk culture.
He holds degrees from Brown University (M.A. and Ph.D in French
Studies) and is presently affiliated with the University of New
England.
STEPHEN O. MUSKIE, photographer, is a graduate of the Rochester
Institute of Technology. His images are already well known in
magazines (Life, People, Down East, Yankee...) and in his book,
Campobello: Far from the Mainstream.

NORMAND R.BEAUPRÉ, l’auteur, s’intéresse depuis de nombreuses
années au folklore franco-américain. Diplômé de Brown
University(maîtrise et doctorat: études françaises), il habite
toujours sa ville natale où il est affilié au University of New
England.
STEPHEN O. MUSKIE, photographe diplômé du Rochester Institute of
Technology est déjà bien connu par ses photos dans Life, People,
Down East, Yankee...et par son livre, Campobello: Far from the
Mainstream.
