| About the Book
A young woman works hard to build
a life for herself and her young son. She is very independent. She
has a wonderful son. She has worked hard to buy her own home and a
nice vehicle. Once she finishes college, it isn’t long before she is
employed as a Correctional Officer at the state’s only maximum
security prison. She loves the job and performs her duties better
than most. Life is good. . . .
This is before she realizes what perils lie
in store for her. She knows being a female in an all-male
correctional center can be dangerous. Some inmates feel they have
nothing to lose. It is this threat she is watching for when she is
blind-sided by something much more dangerous. Shortly after
beginning her job, she is brutally attacked by her fellow co-workers
at a staff party. She cannot immediately identify her attackers due
to the fact she was drugged. But in the months and years that
follow, the attackers reveal themselves to her in a most threatening
manner.
Suddenly, she finds that the “Good Ol’ Boys” system isn’t
just a line in a movie. It is alive and well in this rural
Appalachian state.
