THE LUCKIEST HUNTER ALIVE, a set of stories of what has always been most important to the author: hunting, dogs, and the outdoor world. From his beloved dogs to his numerous hunting trips around the world to his hunting camp in Pennsylvania, this is an honest, inspiring account of an “every-man” hunter who loves his adventures in the outdoors more than anything. The author, George Naugle, has earned a lifetime of hunting expertise, and considers each step of his journey in the great outdoors to be a fulfillment of all of his dreams. George, a self-described average guy, takes readers from the far northern reaches of Quebec in quest for caribou, to the Rocky Mountains in search of elk and mule deer, and even to Africa on a hunt for Cape buffalo. The stories are awe-inspiring in their ability to convey the beauty and wonder that exist untouched only in the great outdoors. While four of the original stories and essays in this book have been previously published, the rest are seen here in print for the first time. All but one is true.
About the Author George Naugle has been hunting and fishing since he was old enough to legally do those things, and perhaps even a bit longer than that. For most of his years, George taught science in a public high school. This took much time away from the outdoor things he really loved to do, and upon his retirement from the battlefields of public education in 1994, George was free to pursue his dreams of going where the Jack O’Connors and Craig Boddingtons of the world had gone. His first hunting trip away from his native Pennsylvania had been an expedition to northern Quebec for caribou before he retired, and that had just whetted his appetite. Upon retiring, he booked a hunt for moose in northern Alberta and the whole thing took off from there. When asked recently about hunting, he referred to himself as “one of the luckiest guys on the face of the earth,” paraphrasing Lou Gehrig. Although his routine has slowed just a bit, George and his wife managed to go on safari to South Africa recently. He and wife Doris live in south central Pennsylvania with their dogs, cats, and horses.
