About the Book:
Growing Green is a collection of
episodes (and poems) that have cluttered my
desk over the years. They tell the story of
why and how I have become the active
environmentalist I am today at 81 years of
age. It is my hope that "any excuse to be
outdoors is a good excuse" will carry over to
new generations, and they will find their own
ways to discover the wonders of nature and to
help preserve it, too.
About the Author:
Margaret Meissner Evans grew up in the
small town (then) of Chatham, New Jersey,
where climbing trees and riding bikes was a
way of life. After Oberlin and some teaching
of science, she and her husband Frank raised
four sons on a farm outside of Decatur, IL,
which they turned into a Christmas tree farm
that put their sons through college. 'Twas a
"lark" of an enterprise, and it still goes on
thanks to son Ron and their own hands now and
then, for they just can't let go!
