There are lots of sites on the internet that make research easy.

For instance, if your work involves politics or social science, you may want to look at original government documents, intelligence reports, news releases, congressional material and more from all over the world.  The site to visit is the Federation of American Scientists at http://www.fas.org .  Or maybe your research is more general.  At http://www.freeality.com/encyclop.htm you'll find all kinds of encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri and more.  You can peruse the Encyclopedia Smithsonian, the Catholic Encyclopedia, Jewish Virtual Library and more.
