May 28 - May 30, 2009

Jacob Javits Center - New York City, NY

BookExpo America is the largest book-related event in the country. It will be attended by some 30,000 publishers, agents, scouts, booksellers, acquisitions librarians, book reviewers, book packagers, and  film and television developers/producers, all looking for new books, exciting authors, and new stories.  The BEA is the best place in the world to show off your book and to get it into the hands of buyers. The 2008 attendance was 28,494 industry professionals.

BookExpo America is a meeting place for the entire book industry, where thousands of industry professionals come together to network, learn, and conduct business.  For details, visit www.bookexpoamerica.com.

We will be representing our authors at the show. Our booth will be on the main floor near the center. We'll bring copies of your book, a poster, and a BEA Special Show Catalog featuring your book.  The cost to have your book at the BEA is as follows:

Full page ad + Poster:

$1299

Half page ad + Poster:   $699
1/4 page ad + Poster:   $499

IMPORTANT: If you would like to be included in the BEA, we strongly recommend that you give us at least 24 copies of your book to give away to potential book buyers and reviewers.

If you can be in New York at the time of the show, come sign your books for fans! This is wonderful advertising. Book buyers love it, and it's only $50. This includes a 12"x18" Gift Box Book, an Author Signing poster, and a giant book on our display. We can only fit fourteen signings into the three days of the show. Times will be set on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Limited Space Is Available! We will only be taking forty books with us to NY. Reserve your spot today!

Please contact Diane with questions, or click here to order a BEA package now.

With over a million and a half books in print and more being added to the total every day, it's absolutely essential to promote, promote and promote your book.  Just getting it on Ingram and Baker & Taylor, or getting it up on Amazon will not sell books.  To get people to buy yours rather than someone else's you have to separate it from the pack.  It's essential to get attention and make people ask for it.

This is not an easy job.  There's a lot of competition.  Here are some things you can do to improve your chances:

  • Do booksignings at local bookstores and specialty shops.  Think creatively.  Who's your audience.  Where do you find them?

  • Take your book to book fairs, or if you can't make it, send the book to the fair.

  • Send out press releases to local media and follow up with phone calls.

  • Send out sell sheets to bookstores.

  • Get people to read your book and write about it on the internet, in newspapers etc.

  • Do radio interviews

  • Do speeches and seminars that relate to the topic of your book

  • Advertise in magazines that are read by booksellers and/or book readers

  • Advertise to bookstores

  • Get your book into local libraries where people can read it.  If they like it they'll recommend it to friends who may then go buy it.

  • When you've saturated your local market, move to a more regional market.

Llumina tries to come up with ways to help you get your book in front of your readers.  That's why we  do shows like the BEA, the ALA, and Miami Book Fair, and offer bookstore representation via our twice-yearly catalogs.

In addition, we periodically offer advertising deals through such publications as ForeWord Magazine (1/10th of a page full color ad for $325), and The New York Review of Books (cost for an ad is $295). See above for current specials.
