FINALLY!  It's now possible to distribute color books through Ingram. And we're gearing up to do more of them than ever.  There are a few caveats, however, if your book is going to be submitted for distribution through Ingram.

    1.  To get this distribution, the books have to be printed through the Ingram printer, Lightning Source.  At this time, they only print paperbacks in color, so if you want hardcover, we won't be able to get Ingram distribution for it. The sizes for Ingram distributed color books are also limited: 8.5 x 8.5 or 8.5 x11.

    2.  Color books done through POD are still very expensive to print. Often the only way to bring the cost down to a reasonable level is to order quantities of 1000 or more.  However, Llumina has started its own printing company and will now be able to offer color books at prices that still allow the author to make money without purchasing hundreds or thousands of books.

After several years of working with color books and their authors, we've come up with the ideal package.  In fact, we have a few of them. These packages are designed to use POD as a way to test the market for your books, and then, if sales warrant, they allow you to smoothly move on to printing the books through the offset process if this is what you want. This way you can keep your investment low until you know whether or not the books will sell.

We use a heavier paper (80 lb.) and cover (12 pt. laminated cardstock) than are used on typical POD books.  In addition, while the Ingram printer binds color books with staples if they're under 48 pages, when we print these books, we perfect bind them.
