Do You Think Your Book Could Be a Play or a Movie?

We're always trying to find ways to help our authors push the envelope and reach for the top, and if you write novels and think one could be a good movie, this may be the opportunity you've been seeking.

Llumina has partnered with City Stage Productions, a company that has been in the film and theatre business for many years. The company's two producers have offered to make their expertise available to Llumina's authors.

In addition, we have also partnered with Josh Silver, a producer, to read, at his discretion, some of the screenplays developed through this program. He cannot guarantee that he will like your project or do anything with it, but if it makes it as far as Josh, you may get the opening you desire. Allow me to introduce Carrol Mendelson, Danna Hyams, and Josh Silver.

Carrol Mendelson: Co-wrote and produced Rachel & Julio starring Lainie Kazan and Joe Bologna. She also wrote and produced Precious Piglet and Her Pals, which won the LA ADA 2005 regional award for best original children’s musical, and created a pilot for a children’s television series called Bellyville and The Barnyard Bunch. In addition, Carrol wrote and produced the drama Imperfect Seed, which premiered in Los Angeles as a theater production and is currently a screenplay. She co-produced Mariette Hartley’s one woman show, If You Get to Bethlehem You’ve Gone Too Far, and was president of Carrol Productions, where she wrote and produced original material.

Danna Hyams: As a founding member and Artistic Director of City Stage Theatre Company since 1983, Danna has developed and produced numerous original plays throughout Los Angeles. Danna also spent a brief period as a Development Executive at New Line Cinema and went on to form her own independent script consulting business. In 2004, with Artistic Director, Gary Blumsack, Danna became the co-founder and Producing Director of The Hayworth Theatre. Among their award winning productions are Not A Genuine Black Man, Sexy Laundry, Nowhere On The Border, Havana Bourgeois and Lovelace, A Rock Opera, which enjoyed a critically acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010.

Josh Silver: Josh Silver has worked in the entertainment industry as a film, theater, and special event producer, personal manager, and performer. His newest venture, Silver Mine Entertainment, is Silver’s solo label for his management / production activities. As a producer, Josh is currently developing two features. Coincidentally, they take place in similar settings – one takes place in the world of boxing, the other in mixed martial arts. Josh produced the play Rachel & Julio, a romantic drama, in South Florida starring Lanie Kazan and Joe Bologna. He was previously a partner at Sneak Preview Entertainment (500 Days of Summer, Twin Falls Idaho) where he produced his first feature, Hellbent, which was released theatrically by Regent Entertainment. Prior to Sneak Preview, Silver produced Bobbie's Girl, starring Bernadette Peters, for Showtime.
