SOUTH
FLORIDA WRITER RECEIVES
INTERNATIONAL
POET OF MERIT AWARD
CORAL SPRINGS, FL January 22, 2002 – The
International Society of Poets and Poetry.com have awarded the
International Poet of Merit Award to Deborah Greenspan, a local writer.
As a Poet of Merit, she has been invited to present her poetry and receive the award at Poetry.com and The
International Society of Poets' Spring Convention and Symposium to be held
March 1-3, 2002, at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
Winning poets will enter their works and compete for $68,000 in
prizes.
After children, divorce, and getting a Master's degree at FAU, Deborah
thought the world would finally be her oyster. Degree in hand, she'd
float into the gentle surf of "well-paid professional jobs."
But, it didn't work out that way. Although she got plenty of writing
work (emphasis on work) and her video scripts have made it to the
Discovery Channel and been placed in public school classrooms across the
nation; although she has been published in magazines and other print
venues, to her great disappointment her books were not discovered by big
publishers looking for big names, and no one beat a path to her door
demanding she sell them her movie scripts. Taking matters into her
own hands, she started a book publishing company, Llumina Press, which
publishes her books and provides editing, ghostwriting, publishing, and
marketing services to other writers, thus giving them a chance to take
charge of their careers as she did hers.
"I've never entered a contest, but I entered a couple poems at
poetry.com just for fun. I
was thrilled when I got the letter," says Deborah. “It just shows what a grand adventure life really is.
There’s no stopping someone who is willing to dedicate themselves
to excellence in any field.” When asked whether she’ll publish a book of poems, Deborah
told us that she’s considering an anthology.
She’s also looking for people who have had visions or
life-altering epiphanies to contribute their experiences.
Writers of fiction and non-fiction, and even non-writers with
expertise in business or other areas can turn their ideas into marketable
books through her company. Some
of Deborah’s own books include InSight of God, a metaphysical
journey to the heart of reality; Kids’ Day, a story of the world
gone mad: only kids can save it; The Healer, a sci-fi thriller that
crosses time to heal the world; and soon to be published Deterrent,
Mirror Mirror, and A Work of Art.
Media Creations Inc., Llumina's parent company, has
devoted more than 10 years to providing professional writing services to
business and industry-creating everything from television scripts to web
sites to newsletters and brochures. For additional information contact the
company at (954) 341-5636 or visit them on the web at www.llumina.com.
